NeighbourLink has a number of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year. If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer and you are age 13 or over, we invite you to visit our volunteer sign up page here.
You’re welcome to apply online here (click on the orange rectangle on the page labeled “Fill an application here!”).
During the online volunteer sign up you will be asked for your contact information, availability, an emergency contact, reference, and upload your Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) if you have one. You will need to remember your username and password so that you can sign yourself back in and assign yourself to the role of your choice.
It’s your choice which role, when and how often you would like to volunteer! Watch for an email 24-48 hours prior to the event you signed up for with more details! Watch your inbox for a monthly email of opportunities available
Food Distribution Volunteers
Our most regular volunteer opportunities are at the monthly Food Hub at 415 Willowdale Avenue which is on the 4th Friday of every month. We have roles for unloading a truck, setting tables, greeting registrants, packing buggies and more. We look for volunteer leads, but we also have room every month for folks who want to volunteer for the first time.
Event Volunteers
During the year, Neighbourlink North York hosts community building events, so we invite sign ups for roles such as planning, setting up tables, greeting, interacting with the public, selling t-shirts, check-in tables, loading cars, and cleaning up. After you are registered on our volunteer portal, you will see the dates and times available for each event.
Youth Mobilization
Are you between ages 13 -18 and looking for volunteer hours? We welcome youth to join many volunteer roles. During the summer months, we create youth only volunteer opportunities which include postering, park clean up, drop in, set up volunteers, and special event roles which include intergenerational events with seniors.
Volunteer Drivers
If you have a G license, access to a vehicle, some daytime availability, and a passion to support our community, this is the volunteer opportunity for you!
We have roles for drivers who are available to make short trips within Willowdale to pick up and drop off food at the food hub and/or to families in need. For example, a driver will pick up items from a food drive bin from our food collection location at Yonge and Sheppard and deliver back to the food hub located at Willowdale Avenue and Church Avenue. Someone will be there to help load and unload your car. We have an enthusiastic team of occasional driver volunteers and there is always room for another driver!
Our drivers are the face of Neighbourlink North York, and are very much appreciated! To discuss this exciting opportunity, you can contact Lily Su at lily.su@neighbourlink.org or 416-221-8283 ext. 6.
Senior Event Volunteers and Community Care Calls
Are you a listener and like to care for neighbours in need? We invite you to consider signing up to be an event volunteer at one of our monthly senior events, or being trained to make wellness visits or phone calls. We also welcome families to prepare occasional meals for families or individuals in crisis, and we look for individuals who are interested in being trained in volunteer community care roles such as Wrap Around or offering a pro-bono service. If you are interested in our community care team training, please contact Lily Su at lily.su@neighbourlink.org or 416-221-8283 ext. 6.
For referral support and a phone call, we invite you to fill in the Help Request Form here and share more details about your situation and the type of help you are seeking.
If you have any questions, you can contact Lily Su at lily.su@neighbourlink.org or 416-221-8283 ext. 6 or Colleen Stevens at colleen@neighbourlink.org or 416-221-8283 ext 2.
